Lola “Huh…” I pushed my fork down into the stack of pancakes. “I think you’ve been keeping a secret from me.” “A secret?” Ryan set his plate down next to me. “About.” He wore a look of confusion as he sat down and grabbed his fork. I placed my hand on his arm. “I’m teasing you.” Then, I pointed to my perfectly stacked, fluffy pancakes. “They look amazing.” I shoved a forkful into my mouth and moaned. While still chewing, “they’re so good.”
Read more here“So.” I handed Lola a mug of coffee. “What should we do today?” Two hours ago, I woke up with Lola’s legs and arms wrapped perfectly around my body. It took strategic maneuvering to get out of bed without waking her up. Somehow I managed. I thought about watching TV, but I couldn’t find the remote. Instead, I spent the time staring out a window. Her neighborhood was quiet. Hardly any cars passed by, but it was still early. At some point, I peeled my eyes away from the window and decided it was time to make coffee. That took some time because I had no idea where she kept the grounds. After searching every nook and cranny, I found them in a cabinet on the opposite side of the room from where the coffee maker was stored.

It was nice to be home finally. “What are you doing?” I called out to Ryan, who was doing who knows what in the kitchen. I loved spending time with my family, but after three hours of chaos, I needed to leave. And by chaos, what I really meant was that there were too many people in the kitchen. “Sorry.” Ryan smiled as he walked toward the couch. “All the leftovers have been put away.” I reached out my hands. “Except the tortillas, right?”
