Ryan
“So.” I handed Lola a mug of coffee. “What should we do today?”
Two hours ago, I woke up with Lola’s legs and arms wrapped perfectly around my body. It took strategic maneuvering to get out of bed without waking her up. Somehow I managed.
I thought about watching TV, but I couldn’t find the remote.
Instead, I spent the time staring out a window. Her neighborhood was quiet. Hardly any cars passed by, but it was still early.
At some point, I peeled my eyes away from the window and decided it was time to make coffee. That took some time because I had no idea where she kept the grounds. After searching every nook and cranny, I found them in a cabinet on the opposite side of the room from where the coffee maker was stored.
As I prepared the coffee, my eyes wandered to the window again. I was standing in Lola’s kitchen in my boxers, making coffee on my day off. If you had asked me six months ago where I saw myself. It would most definitely not be a gorgeous woman’s home. Even more mind-boggling, that same gorgeous woman wanted me to be in her home.
I wasn’t complaining. Far from it, actually.
“Hmmm…” She lifted the mug to her nose and inhaled. “Wait, do you have the day off?”
I took a step closer to her. “I do.”
“Oh, hmmm…” Her facial expression shifted. I couldn’t discern what she was thinking.
“Wait, you’re probably busy.” I set my mug on the kitchen island. “Should I head out?”
She set her mug next to mine and moved closer to me. “You better not.” She laughed and wrapped her arms around my waist. “I woke up thinking about my shower and how much fun it was going to be today.” She lifted up onto her tippy toes and kissed me. “I have no plans.” She kissed me again. “Well, except spend the day with you.”
“Good.” I wrapped my arms around her waist. “Can we talk about the shower you mentioned?”
She patted her hand on my chest and stepped out of my embrace. “First, we need to enjoy this coffee.” She grabbed her mug and stepped around the island to sit down on a barstool. “What is this coffee? It’s delicious.”
“Um…” I opened the cabinet where I had found the bag earlier and held it up. “Looks like it’s an Italian roast.”
“Wait, I didn’t know I had that.” She reached out her hand so she could look at the bag. “Wow, I wonder when I bought it. Huh.”
“Now I’m confused.” I leaned my hip against the counter and took a sip of the coffee. “I searched high and low for a bag. That’s the only one I could find.”
“Yeah, I’m out. It’s on my list.” She set the bag on the counter. “I planned to grab some today.”
Well, that explains why I couldn’t find any near the coffee pot.
“Now you don’t need to buy any.” I winked and sat down next to her. “The coffee is really good.” I leaned closer to her and kissed her shoulder. “Not as good as you, but…”
She gasped and tried to look shocked. “Ryan!”
“Lola.” I burst out laughing. I tickled her side. “You still haven’t answered my question.”
“What question?” She climbed onto my lap and rested her head on my shoulder.
“What should we do today?” I kissed her forehead and placed my hand on her thigh.
“Oh, that question.” She fidgeted with my fingers. “Well, I do need to stop by the flower shop and grab a couple of photos for some social media posts.” She lifted her head. “Other than that, I propose we do a whole lot of this, and throw in a few meals, too.”
“This might be presumptuous to ask, but can I grab an overnight bag at my place?” I brushed a strand of hair away from her eye. “Wait, I’m probably going home tonight. See, I said it was presumptuous.”
Lola covered my mouth to stop me from talking. “We’re getting the overnight bag.”
“Are you sure?” I mumbled around her hand.
“Very.” She removed her hand and leaned in to kiss me. “First up, let’s make some breakfast.” She hopped off my lap. “I’m not sure what all I have, but we can get creative.”
“I like getting creative.”
“I know you do.” She smiled and pulled the refrigerator door open.
AUTHOR NOTE: A missing bag of Italian roast coffee sounds like a delicious, happy surprise. Okay, they’re going to make something together. Should they make pancakes, eggs, or something else?
