“Jules. Wait.” He placed his hand on the top of the door and stopped it from closing.
My body stilled.
His voice was so soft and kind.
I dropped my hands into my lap. “I’m sorry.”
“For what?” He squatted down beside me.
“I…” I looked over, and our eyes met.
“Right.” He placed his hand on my forearm. “It’s okay.” Then he stood and took a step back. “I’m glad you stopped by.” He smiled and nodded before turning to walk away.
I wanted him next to me.
His hand on my arm again.
His touch made me feel something I had not felt in a long time.
Lola and Ryan:
“Hi.” It was her.
I inhaled sharply and lifted my head. “Lola. Um, hi.”
“Jules said you were in the back taking a lunch break.” She smiled.
We were standing a few feet apart from each other. I wanted to reach for her hand and pull her into my arms, but we were in a busy market. I had to keep my emotions in check.
“Yeah, yeah, I was.” I crossed my arms over my chest. “This is unexpected.”
“Is that okay?” Her smile fell, and she took a step back.
Fuck it, I didn’t care that we were in the middle of the market. I stepped forward and grabbed her hand to tug her into my arms. “More than okay.”
